Convergence has been the ultimate goal of a lot of technology endeavour for several years now but so far it has largely eluded users. In the past, the terminology has been abused as technologists bent the expression to mean whatever they wanted it to - generally the product or service on offer.
But while the industry has been fixating in convergence at either the network level or the customer device level, true convergence has arrived almost unannounced in the communications world - and rippled outward from there.
